He said ASEAN and Canada will formally form the ASEAN-Canada Strategic Partnership by ratifying the Leaders’ Joint Statement on ASEAN-Canada Strategic Partnership.

The document contains the commitment of ASEAN and Canada to strengthen cooperation in the area of ​​food security and nutrition, through increased trade and investment, capacity building, sharing of experiences and best efforts, and the construction of infrastructure in the agricultural sector.

“Canada strongly supports the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Outlook (AOIP) and Southeast Asia as the epicenter of growth. Canada also has an Indo-Pacific concept that is ready to be synergized with AOIP,” he told reporters at the Jakarta Convention Center. (JCC) on Wednesday (6/9/2023).

Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau said trade between ASEAN and Canada showed a 29 percent increase.

The increase is due to the intensification of ASEAN-ASEAN relations. Canada, which is closely linked during this period. The leaders hoped that the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between ASEAN and Canada could be finalized.
