Tesla lays off workers at Chinese factory in Shanghai

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – The famous electric car manufacturer in the United States (US), Tesla Inc., has reportedly laid off workers at its factory in Shanghai, China.

To quote Asian News Channel, On Friday (07/07/2023), a number of sources said that Tesla had laid off several workers from the production of electric car batteries at its Shanghai factory.

However, it is unclear how many Tesla factory employees will be laid off, or the specific reasons for the layoffs.

Tesla also did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the layoff news.

News of the layoffs at Tesla’s Shanghai factory was first reported by a local online news portal, Deep analyzewhich said less than 1,000 workers were employed on the plant’s two battery production lines.

The factory, known as Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai, is the electric car company’s largest and most productive factory, run by the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, with around 20,000 workers , including in the Model Y and Model 3 assembly buildings.

The latest layoffs at Tesla took place in June 2022 when it closed its San Mateo, California office. The layoffs affected around 200 workers at the time.

At his San Mateo office, hundreds of Tesla employees are tasked with tagging videos of the company’s cars to improve their driver assistance systems, marketed as Autopilot.
