Badminton News: The World Tour tournament will resume with the Canada Open Super 500 to be held July 5-9 at WinSport Arena, Calgary, Canada.
Indonesian veteran pair, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan are the only Red and White representatives who will fight in the tournament which offers a total prize pool of 420,000 USD or around 6.3 billion rupees.
Ahsan/Hendra admit that participating in the Canada Open is part of a strategy to earn points in order to create hopes for the big championship of the next Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
“We playing the Canada Open are part of the strategy to manage point gains and rest periods,” Hendra said in a press release for PP PBSI Public Relations on Friday (5/26).
“Yes, we will try,” said Ahsan, of their goal of seeking Paris 2024 tickets.
Second seeds, The Daddies will start the Canada Open World Tour Super 500 tournament against a qualifier from the United States, Chen Zhi Yi / Presley Smith.
If qualified, the former world champion will face the winner between Indian pair, Krishna Prasad Garaga / Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala and Taiwanese qualifiers, Chen Zhi Ray / LU Chen in the round of 16.
Ahsan/Hendra have the potential to face Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalists from Taiwan, Lee Yang/Wang Chi Lin and if they continue they will likely meet former world champions who are also top seeds of Japan, Takuro Hoki / Yugo Kobayashi on the best party of the 2023 Canada Open.
