Although they seem contrasting, Indonesia and Canada nevertheless have several similarities. One of them is the potential for parallelism, namely that Indonesia and Canada are both middle power countries. Both Canada and Indonesia are entrepreneurial countries, particularly as members of the G20. Indonesia is currently intensively producing high-quality and innovative entrepreneurs to become a developed country.

In this public lecture, issues related to Indonesia and Canada will be discussed. These are the differences and similarities between the two countries, such as demographic differences, global position of the two countries, similarities between the two countries which are the main producers/exporters of mineral and also forest resources, risks related to resources, as well as the similarities in the world that considers Indonesia and Canada as entrepreneurial states.

Referring to Professor Andrew, the average power model is still far from being suitable for comparing Indonesia and Canada. What is interesting in this context is that each country has different national interests and objectives.

However, these differences should not be exaggerated. Because both countries support international order and rules. The G20 offers links to focus on a middle power’s ambition to become a great power, albeit implemented with different national characteristics.
