VNL 2023: Italy beat Canada, a much bigger chance to qualify for the final

Volleyball News: The race for the final spot in the 2023 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) finals has reached a critical juncture after Italy secured a big victory, boosting their chances considerably.

The win boosted their chances of going to Arlington, USA to play in the 2023 VNL Finals after beating Canada on Friday (6/30), in Bangkok, Thailand.

The representatives of Europe faced Canada and took advantage of this match to win 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 24-26, 15-10) at Hua Mark Stadion.

The victory saw Italy, who started in ninth place, edge Canada and advance to the final. They are now in eighth place with six wins (15 points) with two matches remaining, the defending champions based on their results.

It was a very painful defeat for Canada, which did not lose a place, but three places in 11th place with five victories (17 points) and has only one game to play in the preliminary phase.

Outside hitters Alice Degradi and Francesca Villani played for Italy, scoring 21 runs apiece. Degradi, 27, had 15 kills, four aces and two blocks, while Villani, 28, had 19 kills, an ace and a block.

Opposite Sylvia Nwakalor, she also had a great evening with 17 points (14 kills, three blocks), she also scored the winning point of the match.
