sun storm should take place on Thursday (17/7). This phenomenon will cause a number of states in the United States (US) to see dawn boreal.

The Institute of Geophysics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks predicts that auroras will be visible in 17 US states, namely Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Dakota North, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Indiana, Maine and Maryland.

City of PAthe aurora borealis or aurora borealis are generally visible over Alaska, Canada and Scandinavia, but an 11-year solar cycle expected to peak in 2024 makes them visible in locations farther south.

Three months ago, an aurora was visible over Arizona, marking the third severe geomagnetic storm since the start of this solar cycle in 2019.

It is often feared that the 11-year cycle that triggers the rise of solar storms could create an internet apocalypse. One such concern emerged after the launch in 2021 of a study called “Solar Superstorms: Planning Internet Apocalypse”.

The study predicts that there will be a major solar storm that could damage internet cables, especially undersea ones.

Then, some time ago, misinformation based on a warning from the United States Aeronautics and Space Administration (USA) (NASA) heated up the rumor mill.

The warning, which appears in news and social media posts, includes claims of an impending solar storm that will trigger a global internet blackout within the next decade.

The claim also states that NASA’s Parker Solar Probe, launched in 2018 to closely study the Sun and its weather, could save Earth’s internet “from death by solar storms”.

However, quoted from spaceNASA never actually issued a warning about the internet apocalypse.

The misinformation circulating refers to an article published by NASA in March about their attempt to predict solar storms using AI. In the article, NASA does not use the term “Internet apocalypse” at all.

Some experts predict that solar storms will indeed occur after solar activity peaks during this 11-year cycle. However, there is no evidence to support the claim about the internet apocalypse.
