World Cup 2022: Joao Mario reveals the story behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes’ awkward moments

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Rumors circulated that there was a cold war between Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes after the awkward moment they shook hands during the Portugal national team’s training camp for the 2022 World Cup has gone viral on social media.

The rumor arose after a video showing 25 Portugal national team players was uploaded to the national team’s social media account, to show the whole squad had joined in preparation for the Cup of the world 2022.

From the uploaded video, there is a moment where Ronaldo and Fernandes shake hands. However, both Manchester United players looked awkward. Fernades didn’t look the Portugal national team captain in the eye.

Netizens also highlighted this moment. They linked it to Ronaldo’s controversial interview in which he claimed he was ‘betrayed’ by Manchester United, which made headlines last week.

Portugal national team midfielder Joao Mario has given his explanation for the moment. He stressed that there was no break in the relationship between Ronaldo and Fernandes. He admitted he was in the locker room with the two when they shook hands.

Mario also laughed right now. He revealed that Ronaldo joked about Fernandes for coming last.

“It was a running joke between them. Bruno Fernandes was the last player to arrive at the Portugal national team training camp,” said the senior midfielder.

“Later, Ronaldo jokingly asked Bruno Fernandes: ‘Did you come by boat?'”

“It was a joke between Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes. They play together,” he added.

Shortly after, Fernandes also gave his response via his personal Instagram account. In Instastory he uploaded, the 28-year-old wrote: “Oh Joao Mario. you spoiled securitiesher,” along with a laughing emoji.

Joao Mario, who previously played for West Ham, also pointed out that Ronaldo remains focused on helping Portugal win the World Cup title in Qatar. “He’s always happy when he’s with the national team,” the Benfica midfielder said.

“I saw him yesterday and he is fine. As I said before, for (Cristiano Ronaldo) it’s always a pleasure to be here (the Portuguese national team).

“He is completely focused on the national team. He will really help us in this 2022 World Cup.”

The Portuguese national team will begin its fight in World Cup 2022 against Ghana at Stadium 974 on 24 November. Previously, Cristiano Ronaldo and his colleagues will face Nigeria in a friendly match at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, Lisbon on WIB Friday morning, November 18, 2022.
