The invitation was conveyed directly by Indonesian Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan during a meeting with Canadian Minister for International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, Mary Ng in Detroit, USA of America (US), Thursday (5/25) local time.

Zulkifli Hasan is optimistic that ICA-CEPA can become a means to increase trade and investment between Indonesia and Canada.

“Additionally, Indonesia and Canada had a constructive and meaningful discussion while discussing the text of the agreement,” Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) said.

The bilateral meeting between Zulhas and Mary Ng took place on the sidelines of a series of meetings of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Ministers Responsible for Trade (APECMRT) held from May 25-26, 2023.

Indonesia and Canada agree that ICA-CEPA can be completed soon and will bring major benefits to the economies of both countries. Indonesia and Canada completed the fourth round of ICA-CEPA negotiations from February 20-24, 2023 in Bandung.

The two countries are currently preparing to hold the fifth round of ICA-CEPA negotiations at the end of May 2023 in Ottawa, Canada.
