Abandoned by Mercedes, Aston Martin told to carry out repairs immediately

F1 News: Former Formula 1 driver Martin Brundl calls on Aston Martin to make improvements immediately behind Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship standings after the Spanish Grand Prix.

Since the opening race of the season, Aston Martin has been in second place in the standings.

The Silverstone-based team have had a dream start to the 2023 season, having competed mid-table for the past few years.

However, after a recent appearance at Barcelona in which Mercedes claimed two podiums while Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso crossed the line sixth and seventh respectively, questions are beginning to emerge for the manufacturer.

The German team have made improvements in Monaco, but their potential is realized more in Barcelona.

“George Russell had a great run to get on the last step of the podium,” wrote Brundle in his column for sky sports.

“Lewis Hamilton, who has been driving with a very excited and happy attitude lately, was eight seconds away from securing a strong second place.

“Before we got too excited they were 24 and 32 seconds respectively, behind the fast-paced Max Verstappen, but at least there’s hope that Mercedes’ sidepod upgrade will do some good. , although we can’t say the same for a similar upgrade from Ferrari.”

Aston Martin will bring several improvements to Canada in just under two weeks.

“On top of that, after a great start to the season, they need urgent renewal as they are lagging behind in the Constructors’ Championship,” added Brundle.
