The 43rd ASEAN Summit in Indonesia was officially closed today by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Jakarta Convention Center. It also marked the end of ASEAN’s chairmanship by Indonesia, which was then handed over to Laos.
Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas), also present at the closing, said that all the guests present were happy and congratulated Indonesia.
“All countries congratulate President Jokowi and Indonesia for the ASEAN chairmanship, an extraordinary success. So if you pass with honors. So ASEAN friends said, it is difficult to compete with him. Almost all of our friends (praise) including from Canada, America and others,” Zulhas said after attending the closing ceremony on Thursday (07/09/2023).
In addition, the PAN Chairman also said that Indonesia’s success in chairing ASEAN is not only reflected in the implementation of the series of events, but also in its substance.
This is evident from the success achieved in formulating an ASEAN-CEPA cooperation agreement with China, South Korea, Japan and other countries.
“We were also successful, the Department of Commerce was at the forefront and also signed the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA). This is what the Prime Minister of Australia said earlier, Singapore also responded,” Zulhas said.
Zulhas added that this activity has also succeeded in formulating cooperation in the areas of food, security, digitalization, regional peace, connectivity and trade.
