Liputan6.com, Jakarta Potential presidential candidate Anies Baswedan spoke about foreigners’ views regarding the Spirit of Bandung related to the Asian-African Conference held in Bandung, West Java in 1955.
In 2011, while he was still active on campus, the Canadian ambassador to Indonesia had discussions with him. Then, Anies read the ambassador’s curriculum vitae (CV).
Then, on the CV, a thesis written on The Spirit of Bandung and independent movements across Africa.
“When he arrived, I asked: ‘Mr. Ambassador, how did you do your thesis on the Spirit of Bandung? Then he told me that after graduating from university, he became a young diplomat in his place in Africa. Everywhere he went and met everyone, he would say Bandung, Bandung, Bandung. “So what is Bandung according to him,” Anies said, beginning his speech at the he event on foreign policy direction and strategy at CSIS, Jakarta, Wednesday (11/8/2023).
Anies Baswedan also continued his story, which the Canadian Ambassador tried to read and find out how inspiring the Bandung KAA incident was.
Then, in 2015, during the 60th anniversary celebration of KAA Bandung, Anies was among the guests of the heads of state who came.
