Bianca Andreescu reunites with former coach ahead of 2023 season

Tennis News: 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu brings a familiar face to her coaching staff after aiming to return to top form in 2024.

The world number 45 has named Christophe Lambert as his new coach. Lambert had worked as a manager at Tennis New Zealand and left that position to work with the Canadian tennis player. He also previously worked for Tennis Canada and during this period he coached the tennis player in the 2016 season.

“Bianca asked me to coach her and I took the job. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse,” Lambert said.

Lambert, who has also worked with Davis Cup teams in China and LTA in England, has stayed in touch with the Canadian since coaching her six seasons ago.

β€œIt’s not like every week or every month. It’s always nice when someone calls you when you’re on top, but when they’re down I check in and give them my opinion,” added Lambert.

Andreescu had worked with Dutch coach Sven Groeneveld for around a season before they decided to end their partnership last October. Groeneveld has extensive experience in the world of tennis, having worked with a number of well-known female tennis players, including Maria Sharapova.

In the 2022 season, the former world number 4 has won 20 of the 33 matches she has played, with her best performance being reaching the top at the Bad Homburg Open (losing to Caroline Garcia). On top of that, he went 2-5 against the top 10 players.

At the Grand Slam, the Canadian tennis player was less fortunate. She lost in the second round of Roland-Garros (lost to Belinda Bencic) and Wimbledon (lost to Elena Rybakina). At the US Open, which she won in the 2019 season beating Serena Williams in the final, she reached the third round before losing again to French tennis player, Garcia.

“I’m just going day to day and it’s a great way to end this season, to get that desire back,” Andreescu said while competing at the Billie Jean King Cup in Glasgow a while ago. .

β€œI think I’m going to have a convincing pre-season. Next season I really think I can get back into the top 10.”

Andreescu, who has been hampered by injury in recent seasons, hasn’t won a title since winning the 2019 US Open.
