REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The researchers agreed that male should not To wear jewellery in gold, such as necklaces or bracelets. But what if the necklace is silver? What if it is used for health-related things?

Wael Shehab, a graduate of Al-Azhar University who is now the imam of the downtown Toronto mosque in Canada, said that in general men are not allowed to wear necklaces because they are considered to imitate women.

“In general, men cannot wear necklaces because they are considered to imitate women,” Wael said as quoted by Aboutislam on Monday (05/08/2023).

In this context, the Prophet Muhammad is said to have said: “Allah has cursed women who look like men and men who imitate women”.

However, there is a rule that states Adh-Dharurat Tubihu Al-Mahzhurat, which means “in case of emergency, prohibited things are permitted”. So if a man is required to wear a necklace for health reasons, he is allowed to do so.

“It should also be noted that money is generally not prohibited for men. For example, a man can wear a silver ring,” he explained.
