PBSI releases Indonesian squad ready to win Sudirman Cup

Bisnis.com, JAKARTA — President of the PP PBSI Agung Firman Sampurna has released the Indonesian badminton team for the tournament Sudirman Cup 2023.

Armed with the best players and skillful collaboration, Indonesia is determined to be able to bring back the Sudirman Cup as the greatest gift for the furry national organization’s 72nd anniversary.

The Sudirman Cup team exit was held at PBSI Pelatnas National Multipurpose Hall, Cipayung, East Jakarta on Monday (05/08/2023).

This event was marked by the presentation of the red and white flag by Agung Firman to the team manager of the Sudirman Cup, Armand Darmadji.

“Today, through a simple event, we release the badminton team to fight for the Sudirman Cup in Suzhou, China. I ask all players to always be compact, never give up, deploy to their best abilities and not to make the goal of winning back the Sudirman Cup a burden. . Instead, it should be motivation. As a sign of preparation, players from the Sudirman Cup team, such as Jonatan Christie, Mr. Rian Ardianto, Apriyani Rahayu, took turns saluting and kissing the red-white flag.

At the same time, a thanksgiving event was organized for the 72nd anniversary of PBSI which fell on May 5, as well as halal bi halal Hari Raya Idul Fitri 1 Syawal 1444 H between management and employees. Also present were PP PBSI daily chairman Alex Tirta, players, coaches, administrators, employees and sponsors.

In his report, Armand said that the Sudirman Cup will be held in Suzhou, China from May 14 to 21, 2023. Since the Sudirman Cup was contested, Indonesia won it only once. Namely in the inaugural edition in 1989 in Jakarta. After that, the Red-White team still failed.

In the 2023 edition, Indonesia will be in Group B with Thailand, Germany and Canada. With the strength of the top 20 players, Armand said, the Garuda Squad will leave the country on Thursday (5/11/2023).

“The Indonesian team has prepared optimally. Through unity, cohesion, continuing to fight and never giving up, we hope that Indonesia’s 34-year long wait for winning the Sudirman Cup again can end this year. We ask for your support and prayers for the Sudirman Cup team Indonesia,” said Armand.

Agung said that as a strong country in badminton, Indonesia is a nation of warriors and has an unyielding philosophy.

In the past, after waiting 19 years and going through an uphill struggle, the 2021 Thomas Cup in Aarhus, Denmark was finally won by Indonesia.

“After Indonesia successfully won the Sudirman Cup in the inaugural edition in 1989 in Jakarta, we repeatedly failed to win the symbol of mixed team badminton supremacy. We have been waiting for 34 years. Now , thanks to the collaboration and the good cooperation between the players, the coaches, and the support team, Indonesia is determined to win back the Sudirman Cup,” said Agung.

On this occasion, Agung gave pieces of tumpeng rice to Armand and the captain of the Sudirman Cup team, Fajar Alfian.

There is also a raffle attendance prizes as a pilgrimage to three PBSI employees. Sponsors who have been fully supportive so far, namely BNI 46, Kapal Api, Scarlett and Li Ning, PBSI also gave out prizes.

“For badminton sports organizations in the country, 72 is a very mature age. Hopefully, PBSI will continue to be blessed with achievements and golden streaks on the global badminton stage,” Agung said.
