Canada announces new sanctions against Russia targeting disinformation

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie on Friday announced new sanctions against Russian agents and organizations, focusing on those involved in Russia’s disinformation efforts.

Canada has sanctioned 29 agents and 15 entities owned or controlled by the Russian government involved in the dissemination of Russian propaganda in connection with the war in Ukraine, Global Affairs said in a press release.

Among those sanctioned is Sumbatovich Gasparyan, head of the international department of the Russian-funded channel RT TV.

Angelina Jolie made the announcement while attending the G-20 Foreign Ministers meeting in Bali, Indonesia.
