TRIBUNNEWS.COM, OTTAWA – The federal government, through Global Affairs Canada, provided $5 million to help improve the humanitarian response to flooding in Pakistan.

“Canada will provide emergency assistance, including food and cash, to flood victims in Pakistan,” said Global Affairs Canada.

As quoted by Global News, Tuesday (30/8/2022), the federal government has also issued a travel warning for its citizens visiting Pakistan, advising travelers to exercise caution.

On Sunday (28/8), Pakistani officials said the death toll from the floods since mid-June had reached 1,000, which officials in the country described as “a severe climate catastrophe and the worst in decades”. .

In a statement, Canada’s Minister for International Development, Harjit Sajjan, said the world must support those affected by the floods in Pakistan.

“Canada will be there to support the people of Pakistan in the days and weeks to come as they face this devastating flood,” said Sajjan.

“This is part of our initial response to meet the needs of the humanitarian emergency, and we will continue to seek ways to support those affected during this difficult time.” he added.

Global Affairs Canada said a $5 million relief fund for flood management in Pakistan will be distributed in the near future.

“Canada will continue to work with its partners on the ground to provide food, clean water and essential services,” said Global Affairs Canada.

“Canada stands with the people of Pakistan in the face of catastrophic flooding. We will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure they are able to weather this calamity. he added.
