Keep an eye on North Korea, Canada will send military planes to Japan

Bisnis.comJAKARTA – Government Canada will send military aircraft to Japan to support the implementation of UN Security Council sanctions against North Korea.

Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand said the Royal Canadian Air Force’s CP-140 Aurora military aircraft would monitor North Korea’s maritime sanctions-busting activities, in particular the transfer of fuel from a ship to ship and other products banned by the UN Security Council.

The monitoring, he said, would last about six weeks.

“The Indo-Pacific region is critical to global security, and through Canada’s Indo-Pacific strategy, we will continue to strengthen our partnerships with friends in the region,” he said, quoted on the official website of the Canadian government, Friday (7/4/2023).

As is known, North Korea is a country that has often been subject to various sanctions by the UN Security Council since 2006. The first sanctions obtained by the country were related to nuclear test experiments .

The sanctions force North Korea to stop conducting nuclear tests, launch ballistic missiles, and abandon all nuclear weapons and nuclear programs.

In addition, the UN Security Council has also imposed an export and import ban on military products for North Korea.

However, these sanctions have never been ignored by the North Korean government. Finally, Kim Jong Un and his team even had time to test a new nuclear-capable underwater attack drone at the end of March 2023.

The launches come as South Korea and the United States (U.S.) conduct joint amphibious landing exercises and days after the two countries completed their largest joint military exercises to date.
