The French-language online newspaper showed Netanyahu with pointy ears and claws, standing in a long coat on the deck of a sailboat.
The cartoon is similar to the vampire character from the 1922 film Nosferatu.
Under the caricature of Netanyahu, there is a caption that reads “Nosfenyahu on his way to Rafah.”
Canadian politicians, Jewish leaders and others immediately criticized the caricature, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
In a statement, Trudeau said the image was not funny and actually demonstrated anti-Semitic values.
“It is unacceptable to bring back such anti-Semitism and such insinuations,” he said, as published by AFP.
Several Trudeau ministers also criticized the cartoon, calling it “appalling,” “anti-Semitic” and warning that it risked escalating tensions already high in Canada over the fighting in Gaza.
By noon, the drawing had been removed and The Press apologized.
Chief The Press Stephanie Grammond said the cartoon was intended to criticize the Israeli government and not the Jewish people.
“It was never our intention to promote anti-Semitism or harmful stereotypes,” Grammond said.
