Canadian Trade Minister visits Indonesia and strengthens economic relations in the Indo-Pacific

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Canadian Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, Mary Ng, will visit Indonesia from October 10 to 12 to strengthen economic relations in the Indo-Pacific region , the Canadian Embassy in Jakarta announced on Friday.

According to a statement from the Canadian Embassy, ​​Minister Ng will arrange a meeting with Indonesian ASEAN government officials during his visit.

In addition, Ng said he will hold meetings with Indonesian businessmen, including women entrepreneurs, to promote bilateral trade and business relations between the two countries.

This year marks 70 years of diplomatic relations between Canada and Indonesia and 45 years of the Canada-ASEAN partnership.

For this reason, the Embassy said, Minister Ng will also discuss the progress of the Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations and the Canada Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. -ASEAN.

During these meetings, Minister Ng will focus on advancing Canada’s trade diversification strategy and economic resilience, while expressing the strengthening of a rules-based international trading system.

Before heading to Indonesia, Ng will travel to Singapore on October 7-8 to attend the meeting of the Commission on Comprehensive and Progressive Agreements for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Minister Ng will also join other CPTPP partner countries including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.

According to the Canadian Embassy, ​​Minister Ng will continue to promote Canada’s interests in diversifying trade with major markets around the world and supporting an efficient, open, inclusive and rule-based global trading system.

Canada is actively participating at all levels of the CPTPP to support the implementation and expansion of this agreement through the accession of new members, the embassy said.
