Sumenep Regency, Madura, East Java, has a lot of charm and beauty. Besides natural tourism, the district nicknamed Keris City also offers cultural tourism which even attracts tourists from all over the world.

On Sunday afternoon (1/10), hundreds of foreign tourists from Europe visited Sumenep. As the Regent of Sumenep, Achmad Fauzi Wongsojudo, continually reminds us, every guest arriving in Sumenep must be greeted hospitably.

“Every guest in Sumenep is a king. So, like a king, we must treat him in a special way,” said Fauzi, in a written statement, Sunday (01/10/2023).

“It is not only for foreign tourists, but for everyone who comes to Sumenep,” he continued.

Arriving at Kalianget Port, hundreds of foreign tourists from the United States, Canada, South Africa and several other European countries were greeted by representatives of the Sumenep Regency government. The group was then escorted to Sumenep Palace.

Head of the Department of Culture, Youth, Sports and Tourism (Disbudporapar) of Sumenep Regency, Moh Iksan, said that at the palace, tourists were welcomed with local art.

“At the palace, we perform a variety of local arts, starting with saronen, jaran serek, muang sangkal dance, as well as mask dance,” Iksan said.

This local artistic entertainment amazes tourists.

“This welcome was considered extraordinary by the European tourists present. They felt happy and made a deep impression,” Iksan explained.

“Actually, they said they wanted to return to Sumenep,” he continued.

Not only show local art, as Cak Fauzi requested, but every activity in Sumenep must involve MSMEs. The goal is for the community’s economy to continue to turn and improve, thereby impacting well-being.

“Thank God there are many transactions of souvenirs sold by MSMEs, starting with batik and keris. Tourists also have no difficulty in transacting, as MSMEs bring EDC machines,” Iksan concluded.
