Forest Fire Smoke Affects Neighboring Countries, Jokowi Makes Sure Not To Turn A Blind Eye

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) admitted that he did not turn a blind eye to the forest fire disaster in Indonesia, which caused smoke to spread to neighboring countries like Malaysia and Singapore.

According to Jokowi, he ordered National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and TNI Commander Admiral Yudo Margono to respond quickly to the forest and land fires (Karhutla).

“Indeed, the impact of the fire is that it emits smoke, and if the smoke hits the wind, it can go everywhere,” the president said when meeting in Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Saturday ( 10/07/2023).

“The most important thing is that I have ordered the commander in chief and the police chief as well as the regional government to be able to manage even the smallest hot spots, so they must be managed in such a way that ‘They don’t develop,’ he continued. .

Jokowi acknowledges that the current hot weather is very extreme compared to similar conditions in 2015. In fact, according to reports he received, catastrophic wildfires have not only occurred in Indonesia, but also in other countries like Canada and the United States.

“Yes, it is indeed hot, the heat is indeed a long dry season, and the heat is indeed more than normal. Forest fires do not only happen in Indonesia, the United States, Canada,” Jokowi explained.

However, the president confirmed that during this forest fire disaster, Indonesia learned a lot and was able to control it better than previous events.

“We can control it well here, try to compare it with 2015, it is still much further away,” concluded President Jokowi.
