G20 vegetable lunch menu, no politics

The weather in Bali was quite favorable for holding the G20 meeting centered on Apurva Kempinski, Nusa Dua. Although less brilliant, the sea south of Bali is relatively friendly.

From the beginning, President Joko Widodo had requested that the lunch of the leaders of countries and world organizations take place looking at the beauty of the sea. The lunch this time also seemed to be a reminder of the tensions, which certainly peaked when delegates spoke in a closed forum on Tuesday (11/15) morning.

The country’s leaders also took off their coats, as the beach air was relatively warm.

“Mr. President suggested leaving your coat behind as the weather is quite sunny and to be more comfortable when you go to the room for a lunchseveral lreaders take off his jacket, take off his tie,” said Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, who took part in the banquet.

However, Sandi would not explain the menu of foods eaten.

“Various, but lots of choices of vegetables from Indonesia,” he said.

From the Candi Ballroom, where the first session of the G20 summit was held, Jokowi moved to the lunch venue using a golf cart. At the helm, Jokowi invited the Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Mathias Cormann and the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva with him.

Upon arriving at the venue, the President was seen chatting with other leaders including Saudi Prime Minister (PM) Mohammed bin Salman, President of the United Arab Emirates (PEA) Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Secretary United Nations (UN) General Antonio Guterres, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“Welcome to the lunch session,” the president told the audience.

None of the country’s leaders spoke at the welcome luncheon. It seems that Indonesia wants to provide a neutral and politically free scene so as not to reduce the pleasure of lunch. The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, and the President of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, had full say.

IOC President Thomas Bach appreciated the theme of the G20 summit.

“I thank President Joko Widodo for choosing the theme of the summit”recover together, recover stronger’ which is perfectly summed up by our new Olympic motto ‘Faster, higher, stronger together’,” Bach said.

Bach stressed that G20 leaders should give the IOC the opportunity to contribute to peace and mutual understanding through sport.

“Support the autonomy of sport, as you support so many UN resolutions and declarations. There are not many occasions when all of humanity can put aside our differences and unite in peace,” he said.

After that, FIFA President Gianni Infantino took the floor and asked world leaders to consider options for a ceasefire. If necessary, it will be a temporary measure, like the beginning of peace for a month during the World Cup.

The World Cup itself will take place in Qatar from late November to mid-December.

“You are a world leader. You have the ability to influence the heart of the story,” Gianni said.

Gianni invites the leaders of the G20 to seize the opportunity of this meeting to try to put an end to the conflicts which plague the world.

“Football and the World Cup are all frameworks, you and the world are a unique platform for unity and world peace,” he said.

Unique dining locations

The venue for this lunch is at the Bamboo Dome, Apurva Kempinski. The building is entirely made of bamboo and was specially built for the special lunch. This dining room has a total area of approximately 800 square meters with 43 seats. A large circular table filled the space, so that delegates could enjoy Indonesian specialties together.

The construction of the Bamboo Dome was initiated by a request from the president who wanted to enjoy a lunch with a view of the sea. Consultant visual Creative G20 summit Elwin Mok said the banquet would initially be held in a tent. However, as it is located near the beach with strong winds, the plan was cancelled.

During the creative team’s discussion with the G20 Assistance and Partnership Team Coordinator, Wishnutama and the Secretary of State, the idea emerged to feature a stone and brick building. However, this option is not possible, because the location must return to its original state after the G20.

“We had to look for something unique that was G20 only,” Elwin said.

During a trip to Melasti Beach in the southern area of Bali, Elwin and his team saw a number of workers constructing bamboo constructions. From this incident, bamboo became the main choice of building material for lunch.

The design of the bamboo dome is adapted to Balinese life, and was designed by designer Rubi Roesli. Elwin and Rubi then spoke with UGM bamboo expert Ashar Saputra to find the right shape, namely a semi-circular dome or a dome. dome. [ns/ab]
