Google Maps now uses AI, here is a list of the latest features

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA—Google has added a number of new updates to Maps, including several artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features designed to make it easier for users to search, explore their surroundings and reach their destinations more easily.

Google Plans will make it easier for users to find something near them and give them inspiration to do something. The following is a list of features, as reported by Technological crisisFriday (10/27/2023).

1. Search on Maps

Now, when a user searches for something like “animal latte art,” for example, they will get photos of what they are looking for. The results shown are based on the analysis of photos shared by users on Google Maps thanks to AI and advanced image recognition models. By displaying these images, Google wants to make it easier for users to discover new places that meet their expectations.

This new way to search on Maps is rolling out this week in France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. Google plans to expand it to more countries in the future.

2.Suggestions for fun activities

Search results become more organized based on items surrounding the user. For example, providing recommendations for “things to do” such as “anime,” “cherry blossoms,” or “art exhibitions” in Tokyo, Japan. You can tap the location and navigate to it or save it for later. This update, designed to help you find activities and dining options, will roll out globally to Android and iOS in the coming weeks.

3.Browsing interface

Google also announced that the Maps navigation interface will soon more accurately reflect the surrounding environment. For example, you’ll see more realistic buildings to better orient users as they pass through the city center. In addition to updated colors on the map, you’ll now see improved lane details when you’re on the highway, which will come in handy when you need to quickly cross multiple lanes to exit. This update will be rolled out in the coming months in 12 countries, including the United States, Canada, France and Germany.

4.Help for electric driver

Additionally, EV drivers on Android and iOS will begin to see additional charging station information appear on their maps, including information about which chargers are compatible with their vehicles. Then the information available on the charger is fast, medium or slow.

5. Objective in Maps

Google is also offering Lens in Maps, formerly known as Search with Live View, in more than 50 new cities, including Austin, Las Vegas, Rome, São Paulo and Taipei. This feature uses AI and augmented reality to make it easier for you to understand your surroundings and find information about things like ATMs, public transit stations, nearby restaurants, and more.
