Indonesian team participates in the World Bike Mail Championship in Canada

MONTREAL, KOMPAS.com – The Messenger Cycle World Championship (CMWC) will be held again in Montreal, Canada, from August 10 to 14, 2017.

CMWC is the most prestigious annual international competition featuring the best and brightest bike couriers from around the world. During this event, participants will be tested physically and mentally.

All in a family atmosphere, typical of the large international family of bicycle couriers or messfam (family of messengers).

This year's CMWC will be special as it is its silver anniversary since its inception in Berlin in 1993.

More than 300 participants from 27 countries have registered for CMWC 2017. Participants from Asia are represented by Japan, Taiwan and Indonesia.

The Indonesian bike courier team is represented by Westbike Messenger Service (WMS), the movement leader and pioneer of bike couriers in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

WMS is made up of Hamzah Muttaqien, Reza Adhiatma, Hendi Rachmat and Duenno Ludissa.

“We are aiming for the final this year. As a junior in the international bicycle courier field, WMS has learned a lot from its foreign colleagues,” said Hendi, founder of WMS.

Westbike Messenger Service (WMS) is the leader in the bike messenger movement and pioneer in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

This time, WMS has the full support of MLDSPOT (the leading inspirational lifestyle channel) who will broadcast live updates on activities in Montreal via the Instagram social media account @mldspot, as well as on MLDSPOT's YouTube TV.

The emergence of bike couriers in Jakarta in 2013 is a phenomenon that the wider community is not yet aware of.

Immersed in the euphoria of online motorcycle taxis, people do not seem to realize that using bike couriers can help reduce pollution and traffic jams.

This movement actually quickly spread to other cities in Indonesia. Over a 4-year period, 23 cities were recorded as having bike courier communities.

On average, it is traveled by young cyclists who really want to do something to preserve the environment.

In fact, they all joined the Indonesian Bicycle Messengers Association (IBMA) so that they could work together to become a national movement.

“Our mission is to make bicycle couriers a profession accepted by society, useful to the nation, respectful of the environment and offering a decent income,” said Duenno Ludissa, general president of the IBMA.

“We are proud to see the emergence of a new generation that is very concerned about the environment. They have chosen the bicycle as a means of daily transport as an intelligent solution,” he continued.

Not only participating in competitions, WMS will also bid for Jakarta to host CMWC 2019 in Jakarta.
