Indonesian tennis player Aldila Sutjiadi advances to Cleveland WTA Women’s Doubles Final

Bisnis.com, JAKARTA – Indonesian tennis player Aldila Sutjiadi, who teamed up with Japanese tennis player Miyu Kato, qualified for the 2023 WTA Women’s Doubles Final Cleveland, Ohio, United States of America on Friday local.

After struggling in the second set, Aldila/Kato managed to win the semi-finals after facing Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski/Erin Routlife of New Zealand with a score of 7-5, 6-7(5/7 ), 10. -7, Saturday.

Aldila/Kato’s challenges increase with each stage of the WTA 250-level hard-court tournament. The two won in straight sets in the first round of the Round of 16 against Xu Yifan/Tereza Milhalikova 6-4, 6-2.

In the quarter-finals on Wednesday (23/8), the Indonesian-Japanese pair had to go through an elastic set to win 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 against Oksana Kalashnikova / Miriam Kolodziejova.

Aldila’s struggle on the hard courts in North America actually began at the Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington after leaving the grass court season with a feat at Wimbledon.

The 28-year-old tennis player made Indonesian tennis history by qualifying for the Wimbledon mixed doubles semi-finals with Dutch tennis player Matwe Middelkoop.

Aldila, who also played with Kato in women’s doubles at Wimbledon, stopped early in the round of 16. Aldila/Kato are nevertheless 13th seeds for the first time in a Grand Slam. Previously, at the Australian Open and French Open, they were both in 16th place.

At the start of the hard-court season, Aldila/Kato had to go stranded in the first round of the ATP/WTA 500 Washington after losing to unseeded Ukrainian pair, sisters Lyudmyla Kichenok/Nadiia Kichenok, late last July.

Both men also competed at the Canadian Open in Montreal in early August, but were eliminated in the round of 16 by top seeds Coco Gauff/Jessica Pegula.

The following week, Aldila/Kato also competed at the ATP/WTA 1000 in Cincinnati but were stopped in the quarterfinals after losing to third seeds Nicole Melichar-Martinez/Ellen Perez.
