Lanny/Rebka qualify for Top 16 at Thailand Open 2023

Badminton News: Women’s doubles pair Lanny Tria Mayasari/Rebka Sugiarto managed to start the Thailand Open World Tour Super 500 tournament in impressive fashion after beating Canadian representatives Chatherine Choi/Josephine Wu in the first round.

Lanny/Rebekah needed just 35 minutes to defeat Catherine/Josephine in back-to-back matches 21-15, 22-20, in a match at Bangkok’s Huamark Indoor Stadium on Wednesday (5/31) local time.

In Thursday’s Round of 16 (1/6), Lanny/Rebeka had to navigate a steep road when they met South Korean top seeds Kim So Yeong/Kong Hee Yong.

Lanny/Rebekah followed Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti who qualified for the round of 16 for the first time at the Thailand Open 2023 tournament by beating Scotland representatives Julie MacPherson/Clara Torrance in two youth matches 21- 12 and 21-12.

In the round of 16, Apriyani/Fadia will meet Japan’s representatives, Rin Iwanaga/Kei Nakanishi, who in the previous match managed to get rid of Hong Kong women’s doubles, Yeung Nga Ting/Yeung Pui Lam in a 10-0 draw – 21, 21-14 and 21-19.

But unfortunately, 2023 SEA Games silver medalists Rachel Allessya Rose/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari failed to go further in the tournament with a total prize pool of USD 420,000 or around Rs 6.3 billion when they went to the Malaysian professional duo, Vivian Hoo/Lim Chiew Sien through a tight rubber game battle with the score of 21-17, 19-21 and 11-21 in a span of 1 hour and 6 minutes.
