RI asks Netherlands to help explain highly damaging anti-deforestation law

The Indonesian government has requested support from the Netherlands and France regarding the abolition of the European Union’s policy on the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) or Anti-Deforestation Law. This regulation is considered detrimental to Indonesia.

This was stated by Minister of Commerce Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) after accompanying Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in a bilateral meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G20 summit in India, Saturday (9/9). /2023).

“We ask for support from the Netherlands to explain Indonesia’s position that EU deforestation is causing problems for Indonesia. Because it will affect our agricultural products, such as coffee, cocoa, pepper, rubber, palm oil. It’s very detrimental,” Zulhas said. .

Zulhas, PAN general chairman, also said Indonesia encourages the Netherlands and France to finalize the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA). Accelerated completion of IEU-CEPA is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

“The value of our trade with the European Union is low compared to other ASEAN countries, only a third. With IEU-CEPA, we hope it will increase. Because the European Union and the “Indonesia have greater potential than usual,” Zulhas said.
