Sony wants to transform cars into entertainment spaces connected to 5G

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Japanese electronics company Sony wants to create technology to make cars not only a mobility tool, but also an entertainment space connected to a 5G network like a mobile device.

To achieve this goal, Sony has two prototype cars called “Vision” which it is working on in Austria with parts manufacturer Magna International. Other companies involved in the project include Bosch, Valeo SE and AImotive.

However, Sony realized that it still needed new partners to manage factories and parts. This collaboration is necessary because developing electric cars requires very significant costs.

As an illustration, Tesla spends billions of US dollars to produce electric cars. This is also happening to other automakers developing electric cars, including Toyota, General Motors and Volkswagen.

“We consider the risks of ignoring electric vehicles to be greater than the challenges they pose,” Izumi Kawanishi, the senior director who will lead Sony Mobility’s new business, said in an interview reported by Reuters on Saturday .

When asked if Sony was open to collaboration opportunities with Chinese companies, Kawanishi said they would choose new partners based on common goals.

He also stressed that Sony should not delay too long in looking for partners so as not to be left behind by other companies.

“We understand that speed is important when it comes to making decisions,” said Kawanishi, who was involved as software engineer since 1986.
