The ITS team obtained 3rd place at the Shell Eco-marathon World Championship

Students of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), through the ITS Sapuangin team, managed to reach the third podium in the Shell Eco World Championship energy-saving car competition -marathon 2023 which took place in Bangalore, India, on October 10-12, 2023.

“We are grateful and proud of the achievements of Indonesian students who are trying to achieve smarter and more sustainable mobility for the future and are appreciated globally,” President Director of PT Shell Indonesia Ingrid Siburian said on Wednesday in his official statement.

In this competition, ITS students compete with 12 student teams strictly selected to represent three regions (hubs); namely America, Europe and Africa, as well as Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

“Shell provides a connectivity platform for the younger generation to achieve technological innovations and find solutions to meet the various energy challenges of the future,” he continued.

In this event, Indonesia brought together three of its best teams, namely the Arjuna UI team from the University of Indonesia (UI) and a team from Singapore representing the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions.

They have the right to represent this region after entering the top four in the Shell Eco-marathon regional championship which will be held at the Mandalika International Circuit in July 2023.

At the 2023 World Championship, the American region is represented by student teams from the United States and Canada. In addition to France, the European and African regions sent delegations from Germany and Denmark.

“We faced many challenges to participate in the Shell Eco-marathon world championship. This achievement is proof of great will, hard work and a strong team. “Not only does this encourage innovation, but for me, this opportunity also leads us to focus on designing energy-efficient cars rather than just playing with gadgets,” said Sapuangin, head of the ITS Frame team & Body, Adim.

For the kilometer challenge or effective competition category, Garuda UNY Eco Team 1 from Yogyakarta State University (UNY) takes first place. Meanwhile, ITS followed in second place and the Danish representative in third place.

The presence of the Shell Eco-marathon aims to offer students the opportunity to design, build and test energy-efficient vehicles.

Winning teams from regional events competed in the Urban Concept category, a four-wheeled vehicle designed like a conventional passenger car designed for use on the road.

Each vehicle selects one of three fuel types, namely internal combustion engine, electric battery and hydrogen fuel cell.
