DENPASAR, BALIPOST.com – Technological developments are increasingly rapid. The proof is that dogs can now be equipped with electronic chips. The installation of this tool is a series of village innovation programs for dog welfare called GUDI or Gochip Unified Digital Identity. This activity targets around 1,000 dogs in Sanur Kaja village. One of the advantages obtained is being able to find lost dogs.

Perbekel Sanur Kaja, I Made Sudana, who was met on the sidelines of the activity, said on Monday (9/10) that this program was the first at the village or sub-district level in Indonesia. This program started with the village animal welfare regulation of 2017 and was implemented in 2018. The village regulation started with a case of dog bite that happened to a tourist and the village was asked to take responsibility for treatment at the international hospital.

The implementation of the microchip installation was the subject of a memorandum of understanding with a chip company in Canada. Installing this microchip is said to have many benefits, such as recording the dog’s identity, including its breed, and recording its medical history.

This microchip can be installed on all dogs, but must be recommended by a veterinarian. He also added that this dog database will be kept secret from the village. The installation of these electronic chips began in September 2023 and now targets more than 200 dogs.

Meanwhile, Denpasar City Agricultural Department Head AA Bayu Brahmasta said that while other villages and subdistricts are still dealing with rabies, Sanur Kaja is already thinking about the welfare of dogs . “Here, data on the health of the dog is very important,” he said.

Although there was a case in Sanur Kaja, it turned out to be an external case. He also hopes that other villages or subdistricts will follow in Sanur Kauh’s footsteps. (Asmara Putera/Balipost)
