The Titan submarine exploded and killed five people some time ago. Passengers on the Titanic Wreck Tour were invited to play their favorite songs to accompany the trip.

“To keep themselves entertained on a long trip, they are told to create a playlist of their favorite music to play through a Bluetooth speaker. But, no country music,” said Christine Sawood, mother of Suleman Dawood and wife of Shahzada Dawood, father of the children of the ill-fated ship’s passengers, to The New York Times, as reported detikTravelTuesday (4/7/2023).

When the Titan entered the water, Christine was aboard the aircraft carrier Polar Prince. He could imagine his beloved son sitting around listening to music, as the ship descended in darkness to save battery power.

“They’re sitting in the dark with a little light of aquatic life floating around,” he said.

Suleman was the youngest passenger on the Titan submarine operated by OceanGate to explore the wreckage of the Titanic on the ocean floor in Canada. While his father, Shahzada is a successful businessman from Pakistan.

They were two of five people aboard the Titan submarine who went missing and were later confirmed to have exploded on June 18, 2023.

Christine recounts her family’s obsession with the wreckage of the Titanic. They first visited the Titanic exhibition in 2012 in Singapore.

Their imagination for Greenland grew after seeing it firsthand in 2019. Until they came across an OceanGate advertisement offering a trip there.

Initially, tickets were purchased for Christine and Shahzada. Due to the pandemic, the trip was postponed for a while. It was time to leave, their son had reached the age of 19, the age at which he fulfilled the conditions to make the trip.

As the diving days approached, things got heated and one last meeting took place. Passengers are requested to wear thick socks and a hat as the water temperature is very cold.

“They were instructed to follow a low-residue diet the night before the dive, with no coffee allowed in the morning,” he said.

In fact, both father and son nearly missed the unfortunate event. Their flight to St John’s Newfoundland was delayed.

“We were actually quite worried, like, ‘Oh my god, what if the flight is cancelled?’

But now Christine wished the plane had never flown in St John’s Newfoundland.
