U-17 World Cup: Canada bounces back from defeat and is ready to face Uzbekistan

Solo: Canada’s U-17 national team coach Andrew Olivieri confirmed that the mental health of the players has recovered ahead of the important match against Uzbekistan in Group B of the U-17 World Cup 2023.

The two unanswered goal loss to Spain in the first match truly devastated the Canadian players. The reason is that the high hopes of achieving positive results in the first match did not materialize as expected.

“Defeat is certainly not easy for the players. Moreover, this is the first U-17 World Cup match they are playing. “They couldn’t get the results they were hoping for,” said coach Andrew Olivieri met after training on Sunday (11/12/2023).

Even though they lost, Canada’s opportunity is still open. The condition is that they are able to achieve positive results in the next two matches. According to Andrew, this opportunity has re-energized his team to face the upcoming test against Uzbekistan.

“Even so, they still have hope because they see the opportunity to qualify for the next round if they manage to win in the next two matches,” he said.

The 45-year-old tactician explained that the objective of this match was clear, namely to obtain full points. His team is therefore ready to face Uzbekistan’s style of play, which is different from that of their previous opponents.

“We are ready to face a very different match than when we faced Spain. “We already understand what challenges Uzbekistan has the potential to present in the next match,” he said.

“For me, the objective of this match is very clear, namely a positive result. “I hope we can score three points because it is crucial to determine our fate in Group B,” he added.

Olivieri also realized that this duel would present a different challenge. The reason is that both teams will be desperate to achieve victory. He also mentioned several strengths of Uzbekistan.

“They understand what they have to do. Uzbekistan played very solid defensively. We think they will put pressure. Moreover, Uzbekistan also has the same ambition to win this match,” he said .

“I’m sure that’s their goal. We also have to anticipate their quite dangerous transitions. We have to remain careful to anticipate this kind of advantage,” Olivieri said again.

Uzbekistan is actually not an easy opponent. They also persisted against Mali. However, after conceding, their mentality immediately dropped and Uzbekistan lost 3-0. However, Uzbekistan can still improve. The match against Canada will determine whether they can continue or not.
