Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The ban on using the TikTok application is becoming more and more widespread. This time, it is Nepal’s turn to implement a similar policy.
Report of Reuters, On Monday (11/13/2023), Nepal will ban TikTok as it is considered to have a social impact. The demand for control of these applications has also increased. Local Nepali media reported that more than 1,600 cases of cybercrime linked to TikTok have been reported in Nepal over the past four years.
The decision to ban TikTok was announced after a cabinet meeting on Monday morning (11/13/2023). Nepal’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma said technical efforts were being made to close it.
Meanwhile, according to Nepal Telecommunications Authority Chairman Purushottam Khanal, internet service providers have been asked to shut down the app, with some even temporarily shutting down access to TikTok starting today.
For the record, Nepal’s neighboring country India also banned TikTok and several other Chinese apps in June 2020, citing potential threats to national security and integrity. Pakistan has also banned TikTok at least four times for immoral and indecent content.
Other countries that have also banned TikTok from operating on their territory, either temporarily or for a long period, include the European Union, Austria, Afghanistan, Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands- Netherlands, Norway, Somalia, United Kingdom (England), Taiwan, Estonia, Canada, Denmark, France, New Zealand and several United States states.
