VNL 2023: Dominican Republic beats Canada in five sets

Volleyball News: An exciting five-set match took place in Hong Kong on Saturday (6/17) in the follow-up match to VNL 2023. The Dominican Republic managed to win 3-2 (22-25, 25-13, 25 – 17, 23-25, 15-10) in Canada.

The win moved the Dominican Republic to 10th place with a 3-4 win-loss record and seven points, just behind Team North America, which now has a 3-5 win-loss record and 10 points.

The Dominican Republic showed fantastic blocks during the match, with Jineiry Martinez producing seven of the team’s 20 blocks. Yonkaira Pena led the team with a total of 20 points, while Canadian captain Alexa Gray reached a game-high 21 points.

Other matches, just a day after suffering their first Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2023 loss and losing top spot to unbeaten China, Poland bounced back in the best way.

Magdalena Stysiak led the team to a superb 3-0 victory over China (25-20, 25-23, 25-22) as they hosted Pool 3 in Hong Kong on Saturday (17/06), where the European team improved their record to 7-1 victory and 20 points, ahead of second place in the VNL 2023 rankings, China with 6-1 and 17 points.

Stysiak had 19 points in that game followed by Martyna Lukasik who had 13 points. Two Chinese players, Gong Xiangyu and Li Yingying each finished the match with 13 points.
