VNL 2023: Revive, Turkey defeats Canada

Volleyball News: After losing to Poland on Thursday (06/15), Turkey bounced back with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-20) win over Canada in Hong Kong on Friday (16/16). /06) to climb to third place in the current Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2023 standings.

At VNL 2023, Turkey now have a 5-2 win-loss record and 16 points, just below Poland and the United States. Canada, on the other hand, is eighth at 3-4 and nine points.

Melissa Vargas and Canada captain Alexa Gray shared the game’s leading scorer status with 17 points each.

Ebrar Karakurt scored 12 more points, while Turkey captain Eda Erdem scored 11 points, including the winning point.

On the Canadian side, Kiera Van Ryk is the only other player to hit double numbers by creating 10 points.

“We approached our game very strongly today. We spoke and we had a good meeting on Canada. They are very dangerous. They have a good striker like Gray so we have to serve well and play good block defence,” Eda Erdem said after the game as quoted by volleyballworld.

“And our break points proved to be the key to the game. After yesterday’s loss to Poland, this game became even more important for us, so we are very happy to have won 3-0.”
