Wildfires in Canada have spread to the US border and residents of two cities have been evacuated

Evacuation orders for the Canadian town of Osoyoos and surrounding districts in western Canada’s province of British Columbia were issued on Saturday evening (7/29) as wildfires spiraled out of control .

The wildfires have now crossed the border into Washington State, United States (US).

Osoyoos and the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen issued a warning citing “potential danger to life and health.”

According to the British Columbia Wildfire Service, the wildfire – called Eagle Bluff – is located approximately four kilometers from Osoyoos and is currently estimated to have burned 885 hectares of forest on the Canadian side of the border. Meanwhile, the area of ​​​​wildfires on the American side reaches 2,000 hectares.

According to the Osoyoos economic development website, the town has a population of approximately 6,700.
