Zelensky says he will meet Xi Jinping over Russian-Ukrainian war

Although he did not say when or where he planned to meet, Xi expressed hope that Beijing would support a just peace in Kyiv, AFP reported.

He told reporters, “I plan to meet Xi Jinping. It’s important for global security.”

As the war marked its first anniversary, he said he was doing his best to prevent China from supplying arms to Russia to prevent the risk of a third world war.

China called for urgent peace talks as it released plans to end the war in Ukraine.

Several Western countries rejected the proposal and also warned Beijing of its close relationship with Moscow.

Beijing has sought to maintain its position as a neutral party in the conflict while maintaining close ties with its strategic ally, Russia.

However, Zelensky added that he was being punished because only a country whose territory was under attack could launch peace initiatives.

It happened on the same day as a historic vote at the United Nations demanding that Russia immediately withdraw from Ukraine.
