REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TORONTO — The Canadian Basketball Federation (Canada Basketball) announced on Thursday (7/13/2023) the list of senior men’s national team players who are expected to compete in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. Ten players who have competed in the NBA feature in this 18-player list, including 2023 NBA champion guard Jamal Murray. The others have participated in the Euroleague and one of them is an NCAA player in the United States.
“We are very pleased to be able to announce the players who will be on our training camp roster for basketball world cup FIBA Men’s next month,” said Rowan Barrett, General Manager/Executive Vice President of the Senior Men’s Program in a statement posted on the official Canada Basketball homepage.
The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 will take place from August 25 to September 10 and will feature the top 32 men’s teams. The group stage will take place in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, while the final stage will take place in Manila, the Philippine capital.
Canada is in Group H and will face France (August 25), Lebanon (August 27) and Latvia (August 29) in the group stage at the Indonesia Arena in Jakarta.
Last month, Canada Basketball announced the appointment of Jordi Fernández as head coach of Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team. FIBA World Cup 2023. Fernandez is the associate head coach of the NBA Sacramento King team.
The Canadian men’s national team will meet in Toronto at the OVO Sports Center for a training camp from August 1-6 to begin preparations for the World Cup before traveling to Europe for exhibition games in Germany and in Spain.
The Canadian Men’s National Team will face Germany on August 9 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin. After this match, Canada will travel to Hamburg for the preparation tournament on August 12 and 13 at the edel-optics.de arena. Canada will face New Zealand, while Germany will face China in the semi-finals on Saturday August 12, with the winners advancing to the final the following day.
Canada then traveled to Spain for two exhibition matches (August 17-18) at the Palacio Municipal de Deportes de Granada in Granada. Canada will face hosts and defending FIBA Basketball World Cup champions Spain on August 17, before taking on fellow American Zone rivals Dominican Republic the following day.
