Bisnis.comJAKARTA – Prime Minister (PM) Justin Trudeau has said Canada is sending in the military to deal with the fast-spreading wildfires in British Columbia.

Wildfires in Canada have caused fires to spread so rapidly that orders have been issued to evacuate more than 35,000 people.

Launch Reuters, British Columbia declared a state of emergency due to bushfires and imposed a ban on non-essential travel.

In addition, free up accommodation for refugees and firefighters, and encourage drone operators to take photos of the fire, to facilitate the work of rescuers.

In several cities in British Columbia, the air quality index (AQI), which measures pollutants including particles produced by fires, was above 350, the dangerous level for IQAir, an information platform in real time on air quality.

The city of Salmon Arm, British Columbia, recorded the worst air quality index in the country, with an AQI of 470 at midnight. Meanwhile, among other cities, Kelowna College and Sicamous both have an AQI of 423.

West Kelowna Fire Chief Jason Brolund said he saw hope after battling fires over the past 4 days.

He said conditions had improved and helped firefighters dump water on the blaze that threatened the town of 150,000.

“We finally feel like we’re moving forward rather than backwards, and that’s a great feeling,” Brolund told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

Trudeau said the federal government would offer Canadian military support to help with evacuation, staging and other logistical tasks in response to a request from the British Columbia government.

Wildfires are not uncommon in Canada, but the spread of fires underscores the severity of the worst dry season that some experts have attributed to climate change.
