Canadian ambassador praises Jokowi-Trudeau vlog

Jakarta (ANTARA News) – Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste Peter MacArthur welcomed President Joko Widodo's initiative to create a video blog (vlog) when he met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, last week. .

“I must congratulate the President of Indonesia, the only G20 leader who has taken the initiative to create a video blog,” MacArthur said when met at the celebration of 150 years of Canadian Confederation in Jakarta, Wednesday evening.

He said the vlog, which shocked Canadians, shows the closeness of the country's two leaders who have met several times during international meetings such as the APEC Summit and the 2015 G20 Summit.

This proximity is not without reason, because as middle powers whose economies still depend on natural resources, Indonesia and Canada must learn from each other.

“I am very happy to say that the President (Jokowi) and the Prime Minister (Trudeau) can spend time together. This is very good for the relations between the two countries, as well as for the relations between Canada and the ASEAN, because Indonesia is a dynamic regional power,” MacArthur said while commenting on Jokowi's vlog.

The vlog titled #JKWVLOG Greetings from Justin Trudeau shows a collection of photos of President Jokowi casually chatting and chatting with Trudeau on the sidelines of the G20 summit.

“This time I was in Hamburg, Germany to participate in the G20 and now there is a young world leader, from Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,” President Jokowi said in a vlog uploaded to his Facebook and YouTube pages.

First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo also appears in the 1:12 video, an image of Jokowi and Trudeau greeting Indonesian citizens.

“Hello my Indonesian friends, my name is Justin Trudeau. I am here with Joko and I am enjoying my time here,” Trudeau said in English.

In the video, Trudeau also said that President Jokowi has worked hard to ensure that together we build a better future for Indonesia.

Since being uploaded to the YouTube page on July 9, the vlog has been viewed by more than 356,000 people.

Besides Trudeau, Jokowi has also recorded his activities in the form of vlogs with leaders of other countries such as Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and former US President Barack Obama.
