Academics: Conflicts resulting from political polarization are destroying the country

Purbalingga (ANTARA) – Political polarization that results in conflict can destroy the country, said the coordinator of the Master of Administrative Sciences study program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) University Purwokerto , Dr. Slamet Rosyadi.

“Therefore, we must learn lessons from political conflicts in other countries, such as in Yugoslavia, now dissolved, or in Iraq and Syria, now devastated,” he said when he was a speaker at of the national police rally from Purbalingga to Dipokusumo. Hall, Purbalingga Regency, Thursday.

According to him, Indonesia must learn from Italy because this country has a different character between Northern Italy and Southern Italy.

In this case, Northern Italy experiences higher progress and prosperity because its citizens have a very strong civic tradition in society and have many life associations, while Southern Italy experiences a “deficit” of social capital, social relations, democratic culture and a spirit of difficult solidarity. Decentralization is increasing and shows a trend towards social distrust.

“Their well-being tends to be lower than that of Northern Italy. This means that social capital is directly proportional to the level of economic prosperity. People with a prosperous mentality will certainly be lazy to protest or provoke riots” , did he declare.

Meanwhile, Purbalingga Police Chief AKBP Kholilur Rochman said that there have been many surprising and increasingly exciting events recently, in line with the implementation of the simultaneous elections and post-elections of 2019.

According to him, all kinds of hate speeches, hoaxes and slanders that divide the children of the nation can lead to the disintegration of the nation.

“We must not remain silent in the face of the current phenomenon. We must not retreat or be relegated because the founders of this nation were the only ones who accepted their differences. In fact, they were committed to liberating the nation,” a- he declared.

Therefore, he called on the people of Purbalingga to unite and avoid divisions among the children of the nation or conflicts left by the 2019 simultaneous elections process.
