Liputan6.com, Surabaya – The Canadian Navy warship, Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Montreal, docked in Surabaya from July 7-10, 2023. Her visit was an Indo-Pacific cruise as part of Operation SCREENINGS.

According to a written statement from the Embassy of Canada to Indonesia, cited Wednesday (7/12/2023), HMCS Montreal departed on July 10. Maritime transport in the Indo-Pacific region in operation SCREENINGS This is part of Canada’s efforts to strengthen bilateral defense relations with the Indonesian Navy and promote peace and stability in the region.

Previously, HMCS Montreal was hosted at the Indonesian Navy’s main base in Surabaya, in the presence of the Canadian Defense Attaché (CDA), Colonel Stewart Taylor, present with Colonel Baedhowi Oktafidia, Deputy Commanding Officer.

Also present was Colonel Muhammad Taufik, Chief of Operations, who represented Indonesian Navy Main Base Commander V.

The presence of HMCS Montreal is seen as an important step in strengthening relations between the two countries.

“HMCS Montreal’s visit to Surabaya is another example of Canada’s expanding naval cooperation with Indonesia. This is an important part of our Indo-Pacific strategy as we strengthen our relationship with Indonesia,” Canada’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Nadia Burger, said in the official written statement.

During the visit, Commander Paul Mountford, who served as Commanding Officer of HMCS Montreal, paid a courtesy call on Rear Admiral TNI Maman Firmansyah, Commander of Second Fleet Command, and First Admiral Dato Rusman, under -Governor of the Naval Academy.

During the meeting, they discussed various issues of common interest. Additionally, the ship’s crew also took time to participate in social service activities at the Laksamana Moeljadi Orphanage.
