Fatal accident of Muslim family, Canadian on trial – pleads not guilty

A man Canada tried on charges crashed the van he was driving against a group of Muslim families who were marching, killing four people. The man, aged in his 20s, has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. murder which he was accused of.

As reported AFP, Wednesday (6/9/2023), Nathaniel Veltman appeared in court in Windsor, in the southern province of Ontario, on Tuesday (5/9) with the agenda for the opening of the selection of the jury for trial. During the trial, Veltman pleaded not guilty to all five charges against him.

“(He pleaded) not guilty to five counts, and we have selected the jury,” Veltman’s attorney, Christopher Hicks, told AFP.

Veltman was charged with four counts of murder, which prosecutors say was premeditated, and one count of attempted murder for the June 2021 incident. He faces life in prison in the case.

A husband and wife along with their 15-year-old daughter and her grandmother were killed in the incident. A 9-year-old boy was seriously injured, but his life is not in danger. This boy was orphaned following this incident.

Local police accused Veltman of intentionally running over the family in a “planned, hate-motivated act.”
