A series of news stories dominated international news on Monday (5/9), starting with a 6.8 magnitude earthquake shaking China until one of the suspects in the massive stabbing attack Canada found dead.

A 6.8 magnitude earthquake shook West Sichuan Province, China on Monday (5/9) at 12:52 p.m. local time, killing at least 46 people.

The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) detected the epicenter of the earthquake at a depth of 40 km.

The China Earthquake Network Center reported that the epicenter was in the city of Luding, about 226 km southwest of Chengdu.

It is the largest earthquake in the land of the Bamboo Curtain since 2017.

UK Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss or Liz Truss has won the Conservative Party internal election and will replace Boris Johnson as UK Prime Minister.

Reuters reported that Trus got 57.4% of the vote in the vote, beating rival Rishi Sunak, who won 42.6% of the vote.

With the victory, Trus will replace Johnson, who resigned in July after being hit by a series of scandals.

Canadian police found one of the suspects in the mass knife attack in Saskatchewan, Damien Sanderson, dead on Monday (5/9).

Saskatchewan Police Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore said Sanderson was found injured. It is believed that the injury was not the result of his own actions.

Now they are still looking for another suspect who is Damien’s brother, Myles Sanderson.

“He [Myles] may have suffered an injury and is seeking medical attention,” Blackmore said.

The two assailants carried out stabbings in 13 different locations in Saskatchewan, killing 10 people and injuring 19 others.
