RI boosts coffee exports to Canada

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Indonesian specialty coffee is increasingly consumed by Canadians. Seeing this, the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) and the Indonesian Consul General (KJRI) in Vancouver collaborated with Nusa Coffee to organize Indonesian Specialty Coffee: Farm to Cup last April in British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada.

Rafika Arfani, Head of ITPC Vancouver, said: “Nusa Coffee is a cafe in Vancouver specializing in selling typical Indonesian coffee.

“Coffee consumption among Canadians aged 18 to 79 has reached 71 percent. We hope that Indonesian coffee will be increasingly consumed in Canada,” he said in a written statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (22/5/2018).

As many as 80 coffee activists, such as coffee processors (roasters), coffee importers, cafe owners, coffee enthusiasts, media and influencers attended this event. The event was presented in the form of a talk show (Talk shows) and coffee taste tests (coffee tasting/tasting).

The talk show featured a number of key personalities as resource people to discuss different types of Indonesian coffee, such as Said Baabud (TPSA Project), Hiro Tsujimoto (Republica Coffee), Mike Li (Los Beans), Diana Kosmanto (Orang Utan Coffee), Mahyana Sari (KSU Arinagata), Daroe Handojo (Indonesian Specialty Coffee Association) and Normand Roy (TFO Canada).

Additionally, Matt Johnson of Prototype Coffee, a Vancouver microroaster, was also present as a moderator.

“This event aims to facilitate the meeting of suppliers of typical Indonesian coffee with potential Canadian buyers as well as to introduce Indonesian coffee to the Canadian public,” he said.
