Malang, East Java (ANTARA) – The Malang City Government is exploring cooperation opportunities in various areas with the Canadian government, one of which is focused on the development of the city's infrastructure.

Malang Mayor Sutiaji said his party held a meeting with representatives of the Canadian Embassy in Indonesia, who expressed interest in exploring cooperation with the Malang city government.

“Earlier it was said that this is more related to infrastructure issues, such as the downtown toll highway, including the LRT,” Sutiaji said at the city hall on Tuesday. Malang, East Java.

Sutiaji explained that with so many parties opening up opportunities for cooperation, it is hoped that this will facilitate infrastructure development plans in Malang City, which are in synergy with the government's plans.

Some time ago, the Malang city government had to build an integrated interrail train (LRT) in an attempt to reduce the level of congestion in East Java's second largest city.

“Basically, we will do whatever we can synergize. Apart from this, other environment-related collaborations are also being explored,” Sutiaji said.

Explore cooperation, particularly in the environmental sector, with the Canadian government, one of which concerns water management issues in Malang City. Apart from this, there is potential for cooperation in the education sector.

However, he continued, the city government would first study cooperation in the environmental sector. Indeed, several countries and international organizations want similar cooperation.

“Germany and the Netherlands are interested in waste management, while USAID IUWASH is interested in water and sanitation. We need to study it first, as many want to collaborate with us,” he said.

Some time ago, the Malang city government planned to build an integrated cross train, which could connect the Greater Malang region. The total financing for the construction of the LRT is estimated at IDR 200 billion per kilometer.

Funding for the construction of the LRT is expected to come from investors in Malang City. Later, the LRT will be in the form of a capsule with a capacity of around 60 passengers per capsule.
