Indonesia enters the list of the 10 most comfortable countries for expats


NEW YORK, KOMPAS.com– Indonesia is on the list of 10 countries that offer an easy life for expatriates. This is based on a 2022 international survey of 12,000 expats worldwide.

Traveling abroad is one thing, but starting a new life abroad is another. Expats who have moved abroad say that Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore are the top three places where it is relatively easy to live.

Meanwhile, Estonia, Oman, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kenya, and Canada are other country options that are no less comfortable to live in. This is based on the Expat Essentials Index, which considers an assessment of a country that is comfortable to live in, including several things.

First, the digital life which includes access to online administrative services, housing such as affordability and the ease of finding housing for expatriates in particular.

Second, administrative activities such as ease of opening a local bank account or obtaining a visa, as well as an easy-to-understand language, no need to learn a new language, or the ease of learn the local language.

Bahrain topped the list, where newcomers said it was easy to get a visa, find accommodation, access government services online and get around without speaking the local language.

Overall, Internations says its three main destinations, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore, offer easy communication without major language barriers or minimal bureaucratic issues.

Citing CNBC, these three countries are known as popular destinations for expats, as they have adapted to make it easier for newcomers from abroad. They also note that English is widely spoken in these places. This makes it easier for foreigners to deal with bureaucratic and administrative matters when moving.

Most expats moving to Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore come from India. They move for professional reasons, to find their own job, for missions or to start a business.

International said expats were more likely to work in finance or banking. Meanwhile, Canada is seen as a country where it is easy to deal with local authorities, open new bank accounts and access strong digital infrastructure.

But, some expats say it is relatively difficult to find affordable accommodation. Meanwhile, three countries, namely Qatar, Kenya and Canada, are considered quite difficult to adapt in terms of language, especially for German, Japanese and Chinese expats.
