Elshinta.com – Fourth seed Ons Jabeur crashed out of the Miami Open Friday local time or Saturday WIB, losing their opener to qualifier Varvara Gracheva 6-2, 6-2.

Another shock at the Miami Open came when Canadian Bianca Andreescu, the former US Open champion who is now ranked 31st, beat seventh seed Maria Sakkari 5-7 6-3 6-4 in three hours and three minutes.

Tunisia’s Jabeur, a losing runner-up at Wimbledon and the US Open last year, recovered from injury and returned to competition earlier this month with a third-round exit at Indian Wells. Jabeur underwent surgery after sustaining a knee injury at the Australian Open and then missing the WTA Tour in the Middle East.

She looked better against Gracheva, who is 22, having two medicals in an hour and 11 minutes. On the other hand, it was the biggest win for Gracheva, who earlier this month reached her first WTA final, losing in Austin to Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk.

“The plan, of course, as with all matches, is to be as stable as possible, to try to score as many points as possible and, of course, to wait to strike,” Gracheva said after his third career win against the top 10.

“I probably just caught this wave where I’m stable, where I still have the ability to play my game, to be aggressive, to cause problems for others with my style of play. I just have to try to keep going. this way .”

Meanwhile, Andreescu, who knocked out Britain’s Emma Raducanu in the previous round, rebounded after losing the first set to Sakkari’s powerful streak. Andreescu then hit a solid comeback streak, peppered with an aggressive performance to take control of the second set.

He took advantage of Sakkari’s gaps but failed to convert two match points. Still, he finally got the win when Sakkari’s shot landed in the net. Andreescu has now scored three wins over top ten opponents since returning to the tour last April after a six-month mental health hiatus.
