The action was led by US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, along with representatives from the UK and Canada. Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey is also said to have done the same.

“We are united in our condemnation of Russia’s war on Ukraine and will push for stronger international coordination to punish Russia,” UK Finance Minister Rishi Sunnak said on Twitter.

From the report ReutersYellen met with Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani to convey the position that the United States was opposed to Russia’s presence.

Sources say the UK, US and other Western countries are pushing for a consensus stance on Russia’s continued G20 membership and have questioned the presence of Kremlin officials.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Kristalina Georgieva has lamented the failure of the G20 amid a plethora of tasks to tackle various issues, including the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the climate emergency and growing poverty.

“Obviously there are some very, very troubling facts that we have to face. I can honestly say that I never thought I would experience another war in Europe of this magnitude.”
